Sea Life Discovery by Semi-Sub
This tour is also know as Sea Life Discovery Semi-Submersible.
This tour allows participants to discover hidden treasures of the Pacific Ocean through a diver’s eye view while staying warm and dry.
Arrive at the pier and meet your tour guide then head to the Sea Life Discovery boat where you can relax in the underwater viewing area of Alaska’s first semi-submersible vehicle.
Due to the long hours of sunlight during the Alaskan summers, there are nutrient-rich currents to support an amazing array of sea life. Whether you view giant kelp forests or lush eelgrass beds, you will see many marine plants and animals. Travel to three distinct marine habitats and view the marine life.
An onboard interpreter will provides commentary and answer questions as you see fish, crabs, urchins, jellyfish, anemones and star fish. A diver from the vessel will enter the ocean with a hand-held camera so you can see live footage of the sea life without leaving the comforts of the boat. The diver will go into deeper waters and you will see difficult-to-spot creatures.
After viewing under the ocean, head upstairs to see the harbor sights on the return trip. Enjoy a snack and visit with the diver at the touch pool, an open aquarium filled with sea life. This is a great tour for kids.
WHAT YOU SHOULD KNOW
- Tour can accommodate guests with limited mobility as long as they can handle steps to move into and out of mode of transportation and walk short distances.
- Light snack, plus a cookie with kelp marmalade coffee, tea and water is included.
- All cruise ships use tender boats to ferry passengers ashore in Sitka. Be sure to check your ticket for meeting place and time so you do not miss your tour. If your tour departs from shore allow yourself at least 45 minutes to tender ashore.
- Always check what time the last tender leaves shoreside back to your ship.
