Historic Russian America & Raptor Center
This tour is also know as Russian America, Raptor Center & Russian Dancers.
Learn about early-Alaskan history and visit the Raptor Rehabilitation Center.
First, visit the Sitka Raptor Center where you learn about how volunteers rehabilitate injured raptors and return them to the wild. Bring your camera as you will be allowed to photograph some of these amazing birds of prey in a unique setting.
After departing the Raptor Center, you will be taken on a tour of Sitka. Here your guide will point out historic Sitka sites including the Russian Cemetery, Castle Hill, the Russian Blockhouse and the Native village area while giving you a history of Alaska’s first capital city.
Enjoy a stop at Sitka National Historical Park where the Battle of Alaska was fought. This park, known to locals as Totem park, is home to cultural exhibits as well as Native artisans who demonstrate their totemic artform. There are totem poles throughout the park which make for great photos.
Next, visit famous St. Michael’s Russian Orthodox Cathedral, the first of its kind if America and view artifacts dating back to the 16th century. Your tour concludes with a live performance of authentic Russian folk dances by the New Archangel Dancers at Sitka’s Centennial Building. From here, town is just a short walk or you can enjoy a nice walk along the harbor.
