Sitka Sportfishing
This tour is also know as Half-Day Salmon Sportfishing.
Sitka Sound offers an abundant supply of King, Coho, Chum and Pink Salmon.
This 4-Hour Salmon trip includes all equipment, tackle, bait, raingear as well as soft drinks and snacks. Your Captain is U.S. Coast Guard licensed with local experience. Fishing licenses ($20 for a 1-Day Non-Resident) are available for purchase on board the boats and King Salmon tags ($10) are required when fishing King Salmon (May, June & early July).
Fishing boats average 26ft. in length and feature heated cabins equipped with marine heads (porta-potty in a curtained V-Berth). We fish 4 to 6 people per boat. 6 is the maximum. "Mooching" or "Trolling" are the common methods of salmon fishing.
You are welcome to catch & release, or for an additional charge, a custom processor is availalbe who will process your catch and ship it to you. (U.S. including Hawaii only, due to customs regulations concerning perishables).
What You Should Know About The Sitka Sportfishing Tour
- Guests over 15 years of age are required to bring $30 cash to purchase a 1 day fishing license ($20) and during King Salmon season (May-early July) an additional ($10) King Salmon Stamp.
- Each boat holds 4-6 people.
- You cannot store your fish onboard your cruise ship.
- Your catch can be processed and shipped to your home. (U.S. including Hawaii only, due to customs regulations concerning perishables). The Captains will clean the salmon and then it will be given to a commercial processor who will cut, vacuum pack and blast freeze it. Prices start from $2.50 per lb. to process and delivery via Fed Ex costs approximately $3-4 per lb.
- For those who do not wish to incur the expense of processing, you can release the fish.
- Water, soft drinks, crackers, chips, cookies, rain gear and fishing tackle are included.
- Children under 5 years are free.
- All cruise ships use tender boats to ferry passengers ashore in Sitka. Be sure to check your ticket for meeting place and time so you do not miss your tour. If your tour departs from shore allow yourself at least 45 minutes to tender ashore.
- Always check what time the last tender leaves shoreside back to your ship.
